The series’ truly wonderful cast is augmented to the stratosphere by its leads, whose chemistry will make you believe in love at first sight. This is already revolutionary. Which doesn’t mean it’s not hilarious, of course. For anyone who has worked in office settings with vague or downright meaningless job titles, who has suffered through jargon (“the fact is, this is about being better”), downplayed realities (“I’m not being negative or anything, but this is only going to get worse”), or general nonsense (“Yeah, cool, no worries. All hail Bridgerton, Netflix’s lush, swoony adaption of a set of romance novels that is the perfect way to close out 2020 (that is to say, thirsty). Bridgerton isn’t perfect, but it’s a candy-colored, gloriously anachronistic romp that brings a new vivacity to bonnet dramas (leaving most of the bonnets aside, for one), and is great fun. It’s about the beautiful land of Thra, and an event many years past that caused an imbalance and blight within the crystal that stands at the center of their world.
