Narrandera High School was one of 15 schools from across the region who participated in the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) Program held at Yanco last week. The program was initiated by Rotary members in the northern suburbs of Sydney 14 years ago in response to the high number of young people killed and injured on our roads each year. The Rotary Club of Narrandera provided volunteers to assist on the day Narrandera High attended. RYDA (Rotary Young Driver Awareness) is a road safety education program for 17-18 year old students. Comprising six sessions, it is a one-day event held either on campus or at a non-school site. Proactive Drive supports Road Safety Education (RSE) by providing their Youth Education program (RYDA) throughout the South Island. The RYDA Program is held at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush. The Rotary Club, Caboolture is rolling out their program across schools in the Moreton Bay Region – and would love your support. Six groups of 25 are. RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) RYDA aims to influence the attitudes, awareness and behaviours of young drivers and passen-gers and equip them with the knowledge they need to stay safe on our roads. On Wednesday, Mareeba Rotary in conjunction with Mareeba Police and Mareeba PCYC delivered the RYDA Program to students from Mareeba High School and Mt St Bernard College Herberton. RYDA – Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Program The RYDA Program is a one day out of school program delivering practical road safety information targeting attitude and awareness of young drivers and their passengers. In 2011 two more high schools attended, and the programme was also be presented at Dalby, well supported by the Dalby Rotary Club. RYDA is a series of practical and powerful workshops for high school students that challenge students to change the way they think about road safety and lay the foundation for safe road use throughout their lives. The RYDA Program is delivered each year to over 50,000 senior high school students from more than 650 participating schools. RYDA is a one day, out of school program, Approximately 150 students per day participate. This is a one day program that covers the following topics over six sessions and is designed to fit into a school day. Topics include: Working with our Community Partner Rotary, Founding Co-Sponsors BOC and NZ Steel we are able to minimise the student participation cost and ensure that our programs are accessible to all young people in our community.
